Homosexuality is as natural as eyesight. It is not a choice. It cannot be denied or made subject to one’s race no more than you can change your place of birth.

It cannot be argued that marriage between people of the same sex is un American or threatens the rights of others. On the contrary, it seems to me that denying two consenting adults of the same sex the right to form a lawful union that is protected and respected by the state denies them two of the most basic natural rights affirmed in the preamble of our Declaration of Independence — liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, I believe, gives the argument of same sex marriage proponents its moral force.

The bizarre inscrutability of these crappy little ads is the surest sign yet that the barricades of intolerance are collapsing, the tone is shifting. Put it this way: hate groups like NOM have lost nearly all political power they enjoyed during the Reign of Bush. It’s now clear, given the wonderful events in Iowa and Vermont, they’re losing the last of their ideological footing as well. There’s still a long way to go, but the walls are crumbling fast.

Our country is founded on a sham: our forefathers were slave-owning rich white guys who wanted it their way. So when I see the American flag, I go, `Oh my God, you`re insulting me.` That you can have a gay parade on Christopher Street in New York, with naked men and women on a float cheering, `We`re here, we`re queer!` — that`s what makes my heart swell. Not the flag, but a gay naked man or woman burning the flag. I get choked up with pride.

The more I grew and the more I learned about sexism and violence and homophobia, the more those lyrics became unacceptable to me. And I began to become more conflicted about the music that I loved.

can we just get clear, calling some one “gay” or “fag” is as derogatory as calling someone a “nigger”. U look like an idiot when you do it.

Rachel Maddow Talks Art in America

“The arts are critical to my admittedly totally chauvinistic goals for my country: I want the United States to have the biggest economy in the world, the best standard of living, a healthy population that shoots at each other far less than we do now, systems of governance and justice that are both envy and inspiration to the world, and I want our athletes and artists to be total international badasses. If I ran the NEA [National Endowment for the Arts], I’d double down on this part of the NEA’s mission: “to bring the arts to all Americans.” If our artists are going to be badasses, we need to tap all our potential pools of artistic talent, we need to cultivate a national expectation of artistic literacy, and artists need jobs doing and teaching art. My NEA would fund arts education in every juvie, jail and prison in the country — creating those art jobs, probably slashing recidivism, making our big dumb prison system slightly less pointless, and maybe someday paying off down the road in the form of the next American international art star.”

-Rachel Maddow, first openly gay anchor to host a prime-time news program in the US.

I am surprised to find myself where I am now. I never would have thought that I would be one of those people who needed to stand up and ask for fair and equal treatment

Film buffs from around the world are still buzzing about this year’s Oscar winners. GLAAD was thrilled about Milk being nominated in eight categories and receiving the Oscar for BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY for screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE, to Sean Penn for his role as the openly gay leader Harvey Milk. Both of their acceptance speeches that night received rousing cheers and applause from within the Kodak Theater. But millions of TV viewers missed out on their full speeches because they were censored. Who is responsible? News Corp. It’s the same media company under fire from many organizations for its defamatory political cartoon in The New York Post. Specifically, STAR is an Asian TV satellite company and a News Corp subsidiary. The TV service reaches more than 300 million viewers in 53 countries. Viewers tuning into the recorded awards show found the company had edited out the words “gay” and “lesbian” every time they were said on-stage by the screenwriter or actor.

I see this as an opportunity for the gay community to shine a spotlight on people who discriminate against people based on their sexual preference,” Lynn Casper, co-founder of Be Your Own Queero (www.beyrownqueero.com), asserts. “It just shows that they are the dividing forces in our country, and that their closed-minded views will soon be the minority.
