Travel Queeries is a feature-length documentary film that examines the culture, art and activism of radical queers in contemporary Europe. Through personal interviews and documentation of performances, festivals, multi-media visual arts and spaces, Travel Queeries puts an exciting international lens on queer fringe culture. With the aim of building bridges and awareness, Travel Queeries considers the word “queer” and explores the complexities, innovative values and spirit of queer within a progressive social change movement.
Travel Queeries was started in 2005 at Queeruption, Barcelona. Filmed in 2006 (UK, Germany, Poland) and in 2007 (Spain, Denmark, Serbia, Italy), production and editing was completed in Seattle (US) and Bremen (Germany). The film premiered in March 2009 in London (UK).
The filmmaker, Elliat Graney-Saucke, has been a long time friend of QZAP, and we’re very excited to bring this to Milwaukee.

september 6, 2009: preview screening of RIOT ACTS in nyc!

A preview screening of the feature-length documentary RIOT ACTS:
Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance

Sunday September 6th @
Glasslands
289 Kent Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11211

Screening begins at 7pm, followed by a brief Q&A.
Performances begin at 9:30, featuring Novice Theory (Brooklyn) and The
Degenerettes (Baltimore).  The filmmakers will be in attendance.

RIOT ACTS is a transfabulous rockumentary representing the whole lives
of transgender and gender variant musicians, though a first-hand
perspective of the intersections between gender performance and stage
performance. This feature-length documentary highlights issues crucial
to interviewees such as songwriting, voice presentation, presenting a
body/bodies on stage, audiences, venues, the idea of the spectacle,
media representation, performing gender and notions about “drag,” and
the personal as political. The film culminates with the notions that
identities and bodies are undeniably political, and that the trans
experience isn’t always one of tragedy, but one of creativity and joy.

Hang out with the Cowboy from the Village People on a Cruise Ship!

Yes, I am totally serious! And this is happening right here in Wilmington (well… Carolina Beach to be exact). There are some awesome events happening this summer and this is just one of them. Out Impact has put together this event and we’ve teamed up with them once again as the community sponsor. It’s a 3 hour scenic cruise along the Cape Fear River along with dinner (vegans & vegetarians need to request special meals BEFORE the event!!) and a performance by Randy Jones (more famously known as the Cowboy of the Village People).

Check out the event on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=63538189338&ref=ts

Yankee Queers Making Strides!

The NY State Assembly passed a gay marriage bill yesterday in a 89-52 vote. The legislation is now in the hands of the state senate - contact NY senators! - and if passed, NY will become the 6th state to support same-sex marriage. Five Republicans were in support of the bill, including Janet Duprey, who voted against it in 2007. Duprey said she was persuaded by a lesbian couple that lives on her block, adding, “They deserve no less than to have the same rights and ability to share their love.”

Empire State Pride Agenda and opposing conservative organizations are gearing up their advertising campaigns, encouraging NY citizens to let their voices be heard. Here in the city, we have the perfect opportunity to do so!

On Sunday, May 17 from 5-7pm….

Join: Audra McDonald, Cheyenne Jackson, Cynthia Nixon, David Hyde Pierce, Kristin Davis, Senator Tom Duane, Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, The Cast of “Hair” and many more for….

A rally in support of Governor Paterson’s Marriage Equality Bill and to let the New York State Senate hear our voices loud and clear that we want equality NOW!

The best place for people to enter is at 45, 46, and 47th Street on the West Side. The rally will take place at the corner of 45th and Avenue of the Americas.

Let us know if you’ll be able to rally by leaving a comment or emailing OneLoveBYOQ@gmail.com

Call to Action - Duke University, Durham NC

Thanks amindy07 for the heads up! pulled info from the facebook event:

On Monday April 20, the Westboro Baptist Church will be gracing Duke with its presence, from 7:30am-8:00am. For those of you who don’t know, this group has been labeled a terrorist group by the ACLU, and spews some of the most ludicrous hate speech of any groups currently at work in the US.

“Well, we wish it were 33,000 killed, but we are thankful for 33.” (In reference to the VTech shootings.)

“The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell.”

“This is the hypocritical, fag-infested, fag-run United States of America and we’re supposed to respect that fag rag flag?”

These warped and attention-seeking sheep are hardly worth anyone’s time, and make their profit off of inciting bystanders to violence against them.

IN LIGHT OF THIS, Duke University chaplains and religious leaders are hosting a peaceful breakfast in front of the chapel, as a quiet but forceful show of support for Duke’s LGBT community, it’s allies, ROTC, and all those groups who have been targeted by Fred Phelps and the WBC. We cannot engage them, this would only play into their hands and give them the attention they crave. Instead, let them protest on their own, ignored, while we gather as a united community to celebrate our diverse campus.

THIS IS A CALL TO PEACEFUL ACTION. Come in your LOVE=LOVE shirt, eat a nice breakfast w/ friends. Let’s take this opportunity to show our support for ALL the communities that make up Duke campus.

In order for this to really have an impact we need the Chapel steps to be covered in a WAVE of LOVE=LOVE shirts and students mingling, unfazed by the bigotry being brandished just outside our campus. SO INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS! Drag them out of bed Monday morning! JUST BE THERE!

Date: Monday, April 20, 2009
Time: 7:30am - 8:00am
Location: In front of the Chapel, Duke University
City/Town: Durham, NC

Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, 9:30pm, Monkey Town in Williamsburg

Pansy Division is a gay punk-pop group that has been on the scene the 90’s with their “confrontational” pro-queer tunes. “Bill & Ted’s Homosexual Adventure” is just one of many songs (of 9 albums) that not only helped form an alternative gay culture, but also to make a place for the LGBTQ community within rock. Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, a documentary about the band’s experiences, is showing at Monkey Town in Williamsburg, followed by a Q&A with the lead singer John Ginoli as well as an acoustic set!

*requires reservation, check the  Monkey Town website for more info, or call 718.384.1369

*costs $8 with $10 food/drink minimum

*there is also a showing @ 7, but i’ll be @ thinkBOOM! ;)

Leave a comment or e-mail OneLoveBYOQ@gmail.com if you want to arrange a time/place to meet up before hand!

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival - April 2nd - 5th, 2009

Durham NC

This is a huge festival that brings in filmmakers and film buffs from all over the country. There will be 100s of films, panels, discussions and Q & A’s with filmmakers. I’m unsure of the queer films present at the festival this year, but I’m sure there will be some, along with a bunch of queer filmmakers. I’ll be heading up there for work and I just got a brand new video camera, so expect some footage of the fest!

See a list of the films here.
